Meet at the seaside end of Mouatt Street, Waitara, by the Waitara Golf club. Parking to the side. The low tide is 8.51 am. so we will start a little earlier at 9.30 am.
There is a track to the beach and then it is a beach walk of 1 1/4 hour round trip to Te Puna / Airedale sunken fossil reef with exposed petrified wood : the Okawa formation, an avalanche deposit dating back to around 100,000 to 105,000 years old from a volcanic eruption of Taranaki.
