Will Hansen is an archivist, researcher, and trustee of Te Pūranga Takatāpui o Aotearoa – the Lesbian and Gay Archives of New Zealand. His work is grounded in a deep commitment to uncovering and preserving histories of queer activism across Aotearoa, from the 1960s through to the 2010s.

Building on his research into trans resistance in the 1970s and 80s, Will’s current work traces the many ways queer and trans communities have fought for liberation across time. At the heart of his practice is a belief that looking back is a radical act—one that can arm today’s activists with stories, strategies, and strength.

In this talk, Will explores how the act of knowing, archiving, and sharing our histories becomes a form of resistance itself.

Hansen will be in conversation with Wesley Milne, former Regional Director of RainbowYOUTH Taranaki and long-time advocate for rainbow young people. Wes has led workshops, created safe spaces, and partnered with groups including Pride Taranaki, NPDC, the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery | Len Lye Centre, and WITT.
