Taranaki Cathedral
Taranaki Cathedral Church of St Mary's church has a complex history on this land of Ngāti Te Whiti. Taranaki Cathedral now rests with a collection of houses spanning eras and architects, a reflection of our story over generations. Yet we are more than a building, we are a collection of people learning to follow the way of Jesus, and learning how to be good neighbours. To create a better future we cannot forget our story. Instead of dealing with our wrongs with avoidance or “cancel culture”, we are committed to listening to every side, having the difficult conversations, and learning from our indigenous roots. Reconciliation is not a destination. It is a long journey of shared experiences worked out through relationship. Our desire is to meet around a cuppa and foster a common union where we can only hope to include you!
We are a church committed to following Jesus amid life's beauty and brokenness. In our services, we encounter God through Scripture, music, prayer, discussion, art, and Eucharist. Through the Holy Spirit, we are liberated and empowered into life-giving ways of being and doing that reflect the kin-dom of God. We are a special kind of family, and time together is sacred.
At Mere Tapu | St Mary's, we aspire to be a place where all are welcomed and affirmed regardless of gender, ethnicity, or sexuality.
